“I am a busy person and honestly was skeptical of my availability to commit to therapy but I felt it would help me. I worked with Katie for about a year and she was always on time and easy to communicate with in and outside of session. She helped me learn to make space for important things in life. ”

Getting to know Katie Callihan
Ready for change but feeling stuck? If you've been carrying too much for too long, you don't have to do it alone.
I believe that every person has strengths and a story worth understanding. Many of the beliefs we hold about ourselves, our relationships, and the world were shaped long before we became aware of them. My approach combines evidence-based therapy with curiosity, creativity, and compassion. Together, we'll explore how early life experiences, family dynamics, cultural influences, and learned patterns may be contributing to current challenges so that you can better understand yourself and create meaningful, lasting change.
I have over five years of clinical experience providing individual and couples therapy for adults navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, executive functioning challenges, perfectionism, self-esteem concerns, relationship difficulties, codependency, grief, trauma, OCD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and other mood and personality-related concerns.
I am also trained through Postpartum Support International (PSI) to support individuals experiencing postpartum depression, anxiety, OCD, fertility challenges, reproductive grief and loss, and other perinatal mental health concerns.
My goal is to help you feel more understood, build healthier boundaries, strengthen self-esteem, improve relationships, and create a life that feels more authentic and fulfilling. If this approach resonates with you, I invite you to schedule a free 15-minute consultation to see if we're a good fit.
What should a new client know about working with you?
Sessions are 50 minutes.
In our first session, we’ll review logistics like billing, cancellation policies, and confidentiality, and I’ll make space for any questions before we begin.
My style is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth. I help clients get unstuck from patterns like anxiety, overthinking, self-doubt, and relationship stress. I use evidence-based approaches like CBT and Narrative Therapy to help you better understand your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and to shift the beliefs and patterns that may be keeping you stuck.
When helpful, I also integrate practical DBT skills for emotion regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and communication, along with tools from ACT and IFS to support deeper insight and meaningful change.
My goal is to help you feel more grounded, understood, and empowered so you can create lasting change in your life and relationships.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
The initial intake is a 50-minute, semi-structured conversation (a biopsychosocial assessment) where I learn more about your background and what brings you to therapy. This includes areas such as current concerns, mental health and treatment history, trauma history, medical background, substance use, family and relationship dynamics, developmental history, and cultural, spiritual, educational, and vocational factors.
You set the pace—if anything feels overwhelming or too activating, we slow down and can always revisit topics later. In some cases, the intake may take more than one session depending on comfort and complexity.
The goal of these early sessions is to build trust, create a sense of safety, and develop a fuller understanding of your experiences so that treatment is tailored to you. By around the third session, we typically begin to clarify goals and outline a treatment plan focused on reducing symptoms, increasing coping skills, and supporting meaningful change.
From there, sessions may be structured and skills-based or more open and exploratory depending on your needs and preferences.

Katie was one of the facilitators in my therapy group for moms. She was really good at asking the group thoughtful questions that made us in the group feel more connected. I thought I was the only one going through so much of what I was postpartum but in this group - everything felt more normalized. So thankful for her in that group during such a crazy time.

I came to Katie with chronic anxiety that made it difficult for me to feel successful in my workplace. I was always doubting myself and feeling walked on. Through working with Katie, I was able to speak up for myself in a rational and objective way - something I never thought I could do. I know feel respected by my peers and I'm able to leave work at work and have more energy to participate in hobbies I enjoy.

Katie was my therapist for about a year. She was both sincere and validating but was quick with humor which I appreciated. I told her that I worked best when given homework and something to think about in between sessions so she would send me creative writing prompts based on our session and I always thought that was so cool and helpful.

I had a lot going on when I first met with Katie. I had just moved to the city and wasn't really sure about a lot of next steps and seeing her helped ground me each week. I told her I didn't have a lot of time to commit to weekly homework between sessions but sometimes she would send me short video clips or give me book recommendations that I could look at on my own time which was helpful for me just to have.

Katie was the first therapist I ever had. Honestly, I was a bit skeptical of the process but I promised my wife I would give it a shot. She made me feel warm and welcome and validated and helped me to be able to pick out unhealthy thought patterns that would lead to unhelpful thoughts and communication with others. I am so thankful for this experience!

I met with Katie for just under a year. I was having a tough time handling my depression and together we picked out a workbook that I would use between sessions. I was assigned homework and learned skills to help regulate my emotions better - even my family started to notice a difference in how I carried myself. I appreciate our work together.
