“I would 100% recommend Katie if you are looking for an understanding therapist who is also honest and up-front with you. I look forward to my visits with Katie. She is not the kind of therapist who sits back and lets you take up the entire session venting. Katie has provided me with so many different skills to help me with everything that I have been going through. We are still working together, and I appreciate our time together.”

Getting to know Katie Drummond

Looking for a therapist we feel safe enough to be vulnerable with can be overwhelming. Finding the right fit can make all the difference. Having earned my Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Medaille University and worked with hundreds of clients as a mental health therapist, I have a lot of experience to draw on to help make that fit happen for you! I focus on a trauma-informed and person-centered approach. Throughout treatment, I utilize a mix of evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness techniques, all to help you achieve your personal goals!

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am extremely passionate about what I provide to my clients; I want my clients to feel like therapy is something that they look forward to. My goal is to provide a safe and empathetic environment that will support clients in learning how to effectively and skillfully process, reflect, and cope with emotions and life experiences. Collaboratively, we work to identify your values and goals in order to help you achieve the life that you aspire to live. My openings vary from 9am to 4pm Monday through Thursday depending on availability and current bookings. I usually request that clients pick a day and a time to stick with so that we're both prioritizing that time together consistently.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In order to ensure an environment of comfort and trust, building a therapeutic relationship comes first. Our first session is all about getting to know you and the challenges you might choose to bring in. Then, we work together to identify what goals would be appropriate to be set. Throughout our journey towards these goals, I provide a good deal of validation, psychoeducation, and coping skills -next to some homework-; all of which are a part of evidence-based modalities. Please Note: the appointment date and time that you schedule is likely going to be the consistent opening that I have to meet with you and it may be difficult to find alternative times to meet.

Katie was super helpful while I was going through some deep depression. All the tricks that I’ve learned from her have helped me make life more joyful. I’ve overcome that dark period thanks to her! I look forward to working on other transitional stuff that are going on in my life right now. Get help people! Things become much easier when you do. – A friend.
I can say that my life has changed incredibly during these past several months. It was a great decision that I made choosing to work with Katie. She definitely knows what she’s doing and is passionate about making you achieve your life goals! This process gives you much confidence at coping with all sorts of emotions. At those hard moments, even just having the support that reminds you that it's temporary, is amazing. But it’s much more than that. She works with you on stuff that would stick with you for life.
I can’t thank Katie enough for helping me during my transition to a new college. She’s helped me build some real confidence. I’ve learned that making friends might require some skills; I am very happy with the circle I’ve ended up in now! Living away from home requires new skills as well. During this whole process, Katie’s been very understanding, super friendly and supportive, while helping me grow. I wanna explore the skills that are required in a job environment, next. -I’m so glad that I’ve found her!
Katie was a tremendous support while I was overcoming my depression and anxiety caused by having lost my job during the pandemic. She was approachable, very friendly and communicable, while teaching me new and important skills to rebuild my life with. I must say that I feel stronger and readier for undesirable stuff that might come my way now. I recommend her to anyone going through tough times and wanna learn some new ways!
After losing my husband, I needed the kind of therapy and therapist who can help me ground myself in this new kind of life and eventually rebuild my life. Katie gracefully supported me while I was going through different stages of grief. I felt respected and not rushed which was very important to me. She also helped me learn new skills around building new relationships; I’ve managed to find a new community of support this way. I’m very thankful!
Having a baby, as an amazing experience as it is, also felt like losing my own life. Katie (being a mother herself) made me feel understood and she gave me perfect tools to work with. Over time, it felt like I’ve built into this new role. The previous challenges became things that can be fun to deal with. Katie is great at being on your side while pushing you just enough to explore new realms. If you’re also transitioning into a new life stage, I’d say: go for it!
Katie has been very flexible and accommodating to my schedule, which has been so helpful. Katie also has skillfully guided me through challenges, and has provided me valuable skills for my personal growth. I would recommend her.
We just started working together. I had a great first impression with Katie. She was on time like literally there right on the dot with no wait time which is such a relief because I hate waiting. Everything she has explained has been very straight forward. I have not left my sessions feeling confused like I have in the past with other therapists. I also do not feel weird asking her things considering I just met her. Katie was kind and respectful to me. I been enjoying our work together so far.
I appreciate everything Katie has done for me. I was in a very dark place in my life before working with her. I was questioning my own sanity for a time before going to counseling. Katie provided me the understanding and the skills I needed in order to get me through it.
