What should a new client know about working with you?

Client care has always been very important to me and I strive to provide a decolonized, safe, and comfortable space for clients to process and explore issues brought to the therapy room. I am able to help clients navigate a number of issues and I don’t shy away from challenging topics. I work with my clients to build rapport and a strong therapeutic alliance; therapy can be a serious and heavy thing and I want to honor and respect the experiences clients are willing to share but I am also able to bring a bit of levity to the therapy space as laughter has such a positive impact on mental and physical wellness, as well as deepening alliances I am building. I am very passionate about the therapy I provide, and my ability to connect with clients is an innate skill I have strengthened over the course of my career. I use more of an eclectic approach when engaging clients in evidenced-based practice. I focus on being person centered and strengths based, while also including modalities such as feminist therapy, CBT, ACT, interpersonal therapy, etc.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical therapy session with me varies based on the needs of the client but it generally includes talk therapy utilizing a myriad of therapeutic interventions as appropriate. When a client leaves the therapy space after a session with me, I want them to feel empowered, heard, and validated. I want my clients to feel like I am engaged with them, encourage feedback, and take the things they bring to therapy seriously, while respecting their right to make their own decisions in life, and their right to a judgement free space. My interactions with clients and other professionals should demonstrate the ethical values found in the social work code of ethics which is what informs my practice especially dignity and worth of a person, the importance of human relationships, competence, integrity, and social justice.
