Katie Raser, LMHC

Psychotherapist
WA
My name is Katie Raser, and I am a licensed mental health counselor with a background in social work. I earned my Master's in Social Work from the University of Washington and my Bachelor's degree from Lewis & Clark College. Since 2017, I have been providing individual counseling to adults. After working with people of all ages and life stages, I now focus on expectant and new parents who are struggling with the transition to parenting, anxiety, depression, or other mood changes, including PMADS (previously referred to as postpartum depression). While I primarily work with birthing and pregnant people, I am also happy to support non-birthing parents. My approach I describe myself as an eclectic therapist, rooted in psychodynamic, humanistic, and attachment-centered theories. I often draw from ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), but I also believe that sometimes the best therapy is simply being an objective listener who creates a safe space to explore feelings and behaviors. When working with parents, I incorporate psychoeducation and parenting education, as well as coaching when needed and appropriate. Ultimately, I encourage every client to share what is working, what doesn't feel like a good fit, and what they hope to achieve. My focus I work with new and expectant parents, usually mothers or pregnant/birthing people. I am comfortable treating PMADS (perinatal mood and anxiety disorders) and supporting those experiencing less acute symptoms who need guidance navigating the transition to parenting. I assist parents facing challenges with bonding and attachment, changes in relationships, and other struggles related to parenting young children, such as feeding or understanding infant behavior and communication. I also work with individuals who are currently pregnant or considering pregnancy, adoption, or fostering to help prepare them for the journey ahead.
