Katina Glover, LMHC

Psychotherapist
NY
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with over 15 years of experience supporting individuals, couples, families, and communities through life’s most challenging moments. My background includes behavioral health, substance use treatment, forensic case management, and program leadership throughout New York, which has given me a deep understanding of the emotional, relational, and systemic stressors people carry every day. Outside of therapy, I enjoy mindfulness and meditation practices, spending time with loved ones, and bringing humor, authenticity, and relatability into the spaces I create. I work with teens, young adults, professionals, caregivers, high-achieving women and men, trauma survivors, and individuals navigating anxiety, depression, burnout, relationship challenges, and life transitions. Many of the people I support are used to being the one others rely on while quietly carrying stress, pressure, or emotional exhaustion themselves. As a Black provider, I understand how culture, identity, family dynamics, and lived experiences can shape the way we move through the world and experience mental health. I strive to create a calm, grounded, and emotionally safe space where clients feel seen, respected, and supported without judgment. Clients often describe my style as warm, reflective, and honest. I believe deep listening and trust are essential to meaningful therapy, while direct and compassionate feedback can help clients move beyond surface-level coping toward deeper understanding and lasting change. My approach is trauma-informed and rooted in evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based approaches, Motivational Interviewing, and Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT). I believe therapy should not only provide support, but also help people feel more grounded, empowered, and connected to themselves in their daily lives. I have experience w/clients from diverse backgrounds.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is a collaborative, supportive, and honest experience. I strive to create a calm, emotionally safe, and non-judgmental space where you can feel comfortable being open about what you’re carrying—without feeling pressured to have everything figured out. I understand that every person’s story, relationships, and life experiences are different, so I tailor therapy to your individual needs and goals. Whether you are navigating anxiety, trauma, burnout, relationship or family challenges, life transitions, depression, or substance use concerns, we will work together to better understand what’s contributing to your distress and identify practical ways to move forward. Clients often describe my style as warm, grounded, reflective, and direct. I believe deep listening and trust are important, but I also value honest and compassionate feedback that helps clients gain clarity, recognize patterns, and make meaningful changes in their lives. My approach is trauma-informed and rooted in evidence-based practices including CBT, DBT, mindfulness-based approaches, Motivational Interviewing, and Trauma-Focused CBT. I focus not only on helping clients process emotions, but also on building coping skills, emotional awareness, healthier boundaries, and a stronger sense of self. I work with teens, adults, couples, families, caregivers, professionals, high-achieving women, trauma survivors, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. My goal is for therapy to feel supportive, empowering, and productive—so you leave sessions feeling more grounded, understood, and connected to yourself.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our work together typically begins with a comprehensive assessment where I take time to understand your history, current concerns, relationships, stressors, strengths, and goals for therapy. I look at the full picture—including emotional, behavioral, relational, environmental, and lifestyle factors that may be impacting your well-being. From there, we create a personalized treatment plan that feels realistic, supportive, and aligned with your needs. Sessions are collaborative and tailored to each individual, but often include exploring patterns in thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships, while also building practical coping skills and healthier ways of responding to stress. Depending on your goals, our work may include: * Processing trauma and difficult life experiences * Managing anxiety, depression, burnout, or emotional overwhelm * Navigating relationship or family challenges * Building emotional regulation and communication skills * Exploring identity, self-worth, and life transitions * Addressing substance use concerns and understanding the emotional patterns connected to them * Strengthening coping strategies and creating healthier routines I have extensive experience working in behavioral health and substance use treatment, and I understand how mental health, trauma, stress, and substance use can often be interconnected. My approach is supportive and non-judgmental, focused on helping clients build insight, accountability, and sustainable change at their own pace. I use evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness-based approaches, Trauma-Focused CBT, and person-centered care depending on what best supports you. Throughout the process, I regularly check in on your progress and adjust our approach as needed. My goal is for therapy to feel honest, collaborative, and productive—so you leave sessions feeling more grounded, supported, and empowered.
