Kavya Viswanathan, MA

Psychotherapist
NY
My counseling work combines traditional talk therapy with body based healing modalities, mindfulness, and creative expression. I am grounded in trauma informed and culturally sensitive care, and I understand healing as something that unfolds through presence, pacing, and connection. With more than fifteen years of experience as a dancer and yoga teacher (ERYT 500) in community healing spaces, I bring gentle and accessible body awareness into my psychotherapy sessions. My work in forensic psychiatry, recovery programs, and community based behavioral health has given me a deep understanding of how trauma, stress, and environment shape us, allowing me to offer care that is informed, steady, and attuned. I support clients navigating complex trauma, substance use challenges, anxiety, depression, grief, major life transitions, and those seeking a deeper connection with their inner world. I place great importance on the therapeutic relationship and see healing as a collaborative and relational process. In our work together, I invite you to explore emotional and physical patterns at a pace that feels safe, curious, and compassionate. My aim is to help you build resilience, deepen self understanding, and reconnect with a grounded sense of inner possibility.
