Psychotherapist
PA
Hi, I’m Kayla Hasson, LPC, NCC, CATP, and the founder of Courage Over Comfort. I’m a licensed professional counselor who works with children, adolescents, and young adults, providing a supportive and judgment-free space where clients can feel understood, build confidence, and work through life’s challenges. I believe therapy should feel collaborative, approachable, and tailored to the individual. There is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to mental health, so I take the time to understand each client’s unique experiences, strengths, concerns, and goals. My goal is to help clients feel comfortable being themselves while developing practical tools they can carry with them beyond the therapy session. I have a particular interest in working with young people who may be navigating anxiety, stress, or trauma. I also enjoy helping adolescents and young adults develop greater self-awareness, confidence, emotional regulation, and healthy coping skills as they navigate the transition into adulthood. For parents, I understand that finding the right therapist for your child can feel overwhelming. I strive to create a therapeutic environment where children and teens feel respected, heard, and safe while also helping parents better understand and support their child’s emotional needs. My approach is compassionate, strengths-based, and trauma-informed. I believe that meaningful change often begins with feeling safe enough to be honest and having someone in your corner who truly listens. Therapy isn’t about changing who you are, it’s about helping you better understand yourself, recognize your strengths, and feel more equipped to handle what comes your way. If you or your child are looking for a therapist who will listen without judgment, meet you where you are, and work alongside you toward meaningful change, I would be honored to be part of that journey.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and individualized. I believe you know yourself best, and my role is to listen, provide support and guidance, and help you develop tools that fit your life, not simply tell you what to do. During our first session, we’ll spend time getting to know each other, discussing what brought you to therapy, and identifying what you hope to work on. You do not need to have everything figured out before your first appointment. We’ll take things at a pace that feels comfortable and work together to establish goals for therapy. I strive to create a space where clients feel safe being honest, asking questions, and expressing difficult emotions without judgment. Depending on your needs and goals, sessions may include conversation, skill-building, reflection, coping strategies, and practical tools you can use between sessions. When working with children and adolescents, I believe building trust is especially important. I work to create an environment where young clients feel respected and heard while also partnering with parents and caregivers when appropriate. Therapy can sometimes feel uncomfortable, especially when we are exploring difficult experiences or making changes. My goal is to help you feel supported through that process while also encouraging meaningful growth. You can expect me to meet you where you are, celebrate your progress, and help you recognize that you are capable of more than you may realize. Most importantly, you don’t have to know exactly what you need from therapy before you begin. We can figure that out together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with getting to know you and understanding what brings you to therapy. During the first few sessions, we’ll talk about your current concerns, your experiences, strengths, and goals for therapy. This helps us develop a plan that is personalized to your needs. Sessions are conversational and collaborative, with the focus changing based on what you need that day. We may spend time processing emotions or experiences, identifying patterns, building coping skills, practicing strategies for managing anxiety or stress, or working through specific challenges you are facing. I may also provide practical tools or strategies to practice between sessions when appropriate. I believe therapy works best when we work together, so I welcome your feedback throughout the process. If something isn’t working for you or you want to approach an issue differently, we can adjust our plan. For children and adolescents, I focus first on establishing trust and creating a comfortable environment where they feel safe being themselves. When appropriate, I also collaborate with parents or caregivers to help support progress outside of sessions while respecting the client’s privacy and therapeutic needs. Because every person is different, there is no set timeline for therapy. We’ll regularly check in about your progress and goals and determine together what level of support is most helpful.
