Getting to know Kayla Nettleton

Kayla Nettleton is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in Del Rio, TX, serving adult individuals and couples throughout Texas. She earned her Master's in Social Work from the University of Michigan and holds a Bachelor's degree from Baylor University. Kayla's passions include helping people break negative relationship patterns and assisting women navigating identity issues stemming from life transitions. Many of her clients seek support when experiencing increased stress leading to burnout, feeling out of control, or realizing they no longer recognize the person they have become. Kayla's approach is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, an evidence-based method that helps clients understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, enabling targeted change. Many of her clients are successful in their careers but struggle with relationships, people-pleasing, self-confidence, and trusting others. Using this cognitive-based approach, Kayla helps clients explore their core beliefs about themselves, others, and the world, examining how these beliefs impact their current lives. This process allows clients to identify their triggers, develop coping skills, and change behavior patterns so they can choose to respond rather than react to change or fear. Kayla is committed to maintaining an inclusive practice where clients feel safe, heard, and understood. She is particularly sensitive to populations who may struggle with trusting mental health professionals due to fear of blame or judgment, including veterans, LGBTQIA+ individuals, first-generation Americans, and partners in non-traditional relationships.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Many of my clients come to me exhausted and at the end of their rope. They feel pressure to look like they have it all together with their career, their relationship and/or their parenting. Many of these pressures come from society but a lot of them also come from extended family and themselves. As a Latinx therapist I understand how cultural norms and ideas of life can get in the way and cause an immense amount of stress in people’s lives leading them to feeling like they’re not “good enough”. Although my background is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which is focused on dealing with issues you are facing right now in this moment, I often assist my clients in getting to the root of their problems because I believe therapy should be a place where you find peace beyond the problems of what’s happening in your life now. Sessions with me are more than just talk. They are collaborative and intentional to ensure we are targeting topics you need and want to work through. If your looking for someone knowledgable in relationship issues then I may be the right therapist for you. The relationship patterns we have are not entirely our fault but it is up to us to change them. Many of these relationship patterns stem from generational trauma, attachment issues and our own trauma experiences. I believe with the right therapist you can work through these issues in order to create the healthy relationships you strive to have. My training in relationship issues and trauma means I have the expertise you need and deserve when transitioning through change and healing your relationships with yourself, your partner and/or your family. As a wife and mother of 3 children, I understand how culture and family expectations can leave you feeling like you're doing something wrong. This may lead you to feel anxious and disconnected from your partner, your family and even your friends. Together we can work to break these patterns and free yourself from these expectations.
