Getting to know Kayoua Thao

Hello! I've been in the field since 2011. Originally from the Twin Cities, I have lived in Las Vegas and now Southern California. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor’s from Macalester College. I’m passionate about treating anxiety, depression, issues in interpersonal relationships, life transitions, trauma, and eating disorders. My treatment approach includes CBT, DBT, CPT for PTSD, mindfulness, and tools and techniques from ACT and IFS. I’m also bilingual in Hmong and English. If you are looking for compassionate, non-judgmental, and collaborative work to help you feel seen and heard—look no more. I welcome you to be fully yourself as I am authentic, safe, and truly human too. I’m excited to be on this journey with you!

What should a new client know about working with you?

I like to provide psycho-education on your diagnosis, symptoms, or experiences, give you a name to the thing you're going through so that it's less scary and confusing, which gives you more control over your situation. Through warmth, space, validation, and gentle challenging, you can walk away feeling very confident about our collaboration, and just uncomfortable enough to make changes in your life to improve your well-being. I read a lot so I make book recommendations that will help, and I give homework weekly: something to think about, journal prompts, practice a coping skill or behavior change, a worksheet, or simply tracking your moods.

In-network insurances

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
