Getting to know Keiona Doctor

Hi there! My name is Keiona, and I am a licensed social worker and therapist here at Intuit Healing. I practice from a human first perspective, meaning that I take into account that every body is its own system, and that we are inevitably placed in systems that impact our entire well-being. I work within multiple approaches, heavily emphasizing and cautiously pulling from humanistic, psychodynamic theories with a trauma-informed, systemic, anti-oppressive, and culturally sensitive lens. I utilize a variety of interventions, including CBT, DBT, RO-DBT, ACT, and relational repair. Therapy is meant to be a safe space to repair, co-regulate, remain curious, and to be your true self. I tend to work best with individuals that respond well to direct, honest communication, and feedback. I am a complex trauma survivor, and I have experienced what it is like to take up space in a world begging you to stay out of the way. Because I value humility, feedback is a requirement in cultivating a safe and collaborative space. I recognize that awareness around choice/ autonomy is a privilege, and I am here to support in finding, empowering, and maintaining it. I identify as a non-binary, Black, Queer person, and have most experience in working with LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and other marginalized communities. A part of the way I cultivate a safe space is by choosing not to villainize humans for having appropriate reactions to societal, structural inequalities. Together, let's build a space where we can express our needs, change our minds, relearn repair, and take up space through empowered action, psychoeducation, and humility.
