Getting to know Kelley Machado

Hello, my name is Kelley Machado, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Connecticut. You may wonder what being a Licensed Clinical Social Worker means and what that allows me to do. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I have the unique opportunity to help people work through various points in their lives. I earned my Master's in Social Work from the University of Connecticut, which prepared me to serve diverse populations. Over the years, I have worked with people from many socioeconomic, cultural, and racial backgrounds, addressing a wide range of concerns. I began my career in the mental health system, then moved into the criminal justice system, and later transitioned to medical social work, where I addressed various medical issues as well as aging and end-of-life concerns. I believe people can experience difficulties coping whenever faced with a transition in life. These changes can include monumental transitions that are either positive or negative, such as a new job, new family members, loss, separations, disappointments, or traumatic events. These experiences can cause psychosocial distress, which can have far-reaching impacts on many aspects of our lives. I work with clients-including children, adults, couples, and families-to find healthy coping methods that help them develop a healthier perception of themselves. This, in turn, strengthens their relationships with themselves and others, allowing them to feel more comfortable, secure, and whole. I take time to get to know each of my clients individually so I can tailor my approach to their unique needs. I have been trained in and adopted many therapeutic approaches, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, attachment theory, developmental theory, trauma theory, and dialectical behavioral therapy. Change is not easy, and embarking on change takes a tremendous amount of courage and action.

What should a new client know about working with you?

During our first sessions we will get to know each other better to make sure I understand your needs and concerns as well as give you an opportunity to get to know my style and approaches to make sure you feel comfortable moving forward working together. Also during these sessions we will be making connections in order to build a better understanding of presenting concerns. Our sessions will seek to enhance your understanding of yourself and the various life experiences that may contribute to concerns. My hope will be assisting you with improving your internal understanding to improve your relationship with your self and others.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
