Getting to know Kelley Whittaker

Ms. Kelley Whittaker is a compassionate psychotherapist who provides virtual counseling through ReachLink. She earned her master's degree in school psychology from Fairfield University. Ms. Whittaker strives to stay abreast of developments in her field and incorporates this knowledge into her treatment approach. In her practice, she creates a welcoming environment where patients can freely discuss their issues. She provides patients with the necessary guidance to improve their lifestyles and involves them in crafting therapy plans tailored to their needs and goals.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Awareness is like the sun. When it shines on things, they are transformed. As a licensed professional counselor and certified school psychologist, my intention is to create a container of safety, appreciation, connection and support. My style is a balance of compassion with heartfelt directness. My therapeutic approach is based in Gestalt body-centered psychotherapy that embraces mind-body-spirit integration. I help my clients bring awareness to the bonding and attachment they experienced as children within their own family systems which has defined their narratives, formed limiting beliefs, and divided their true Self into parts. Each of us carry our wounded parts into our present day life which results in dysfunctional relationships and destructive patterns of behavior until we have the realization that our old familiar and even abusive patterns no longer serve us. There is an expression “we bleed on others until we are ready to heal our wounds”. It is my mission to help my clients meet their parts with compassion, acceptance and unconditional love and in time integrate their parts into feeling whole again. I have additional training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Compassionate Communication, EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFT), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), positive psychology, shadow work, somatic bodywork and attachment theory. I am completing my international certification as a Trauma Informed Coach specializing in recovery from narcissistic abuse. With grace and ease, I integrate multiple therapeutic modalities into our sessions to create a meaningful and powerful humanistic experience. At any moment, you have a choice, that either leads you closer to your authentic self or further away from it. I feel honored to be a part of your transformational healing process and invite you to lean into the fullness of your true Self where freedom, abundance and expansion exists.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Going through therapy with a therapist can be a very beneficial experience for individuals who want to work through their mental health challenges and improve their overall well-being. Here are some steps you can take to make the most of your therapy experience: -Find the right therapist: The first step is to find a therapist who is a good fit for you. Look for someone who specializes in the type of issues you want to address and whose style matches your preferences. I hope I can be that person for you. -Set clear goals: It's important to have clear goals for therapy so that you and I are on the same page. In our first session, we will discuss your goals and work together to create a treatment plan that outlines the steps you will take to achieve those goals. - Try to be open and honest with me about your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I am here to help you, and I can only do so if I have a clear understanding of what's going on. - Trust the process: Therapy can be a long process, and it's important to trust that the work you're doing with me will pay off in the end. It's also important to be patient and not expect instant results. - Practice self-care: In addition to attending therapy sessions, it's important to practice self-care on a regular basis. This may include activities such as exercise, meditation, or spending time with loved ones. - Keep an open mind: Finally, it's important to keep an open mind and be willing to try new things. As your therapist, I may suggest different techniques or approaches that you haven't tried before, and it's important to be receptive to these suggestions. Remember, therapy is a collaborative process between you and me, so be sure to communicate your thoughts and concerns along the way. With the right mindset and a willingness to work, therapy can be a transformative experience that helps you achieve your goals and improve your quality of life.
