Psychotherapist

Hi, I’m Kendra, the therapist behind The Within Collective. I know how exhausting it can be when your own brain rarely seems to give you a break, especially when everyone around you thinks you’re doing just fine. I also know that understanding something logically and actually feeling able to do something differently are two very different things. You probably already know what you’re “supposed” to do. You know you shouldn’t be restricting, purging, engaging in compulsions, putting everyone else’s needs before your own, or being so hard on yourself. But knowing isn’t the problem. Sometimes the things that are hurting you are also the things that have helped you feel safe, and that makes letting go of them really complicated. I want to take the time to understand why these behaviors exist and why doing something differently feels so hard. My approach is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth. I’ll challenge you, but I’ll also meet you with the self-compassion you’re not always able to give yourself. You don’t have to perform in therapy or be the easy client. You’re allowed to take up space, show up messy, and finally say the thing out loud that you’re afraid to say without judgment.

Getting to know Kendra Dascano

What should a new client know about working with you?

My work with eating disorders and OCD is shaped by more than my clinical training. I bring lived experience of eating disorder recovery and OCD into the therapy room, too. I know what it’s like when food and your body take up more space in your life than you ever wanted them to. I also know what it’s like to have a brain that desperately wants certainty, gets stuck on the “what if?”, and convinces you that maybe if you think about it just one more time, you’ll finally feel okay. I know how frustrating it can be to understand something logically and still feel completely stuck in it. To want freedom while also being scared of what doing things differently might ask of you. Those experiences are part of why I care so deeply about this work. They’ve also taught me that knowing all the right things and actually living them are two very different things. Change happens in the messy, uncomfortable, imperfect moments when you start responding differently, even when every part of you wants to fall back into what feels familiar. Your experience won’t be the same as mine, and I’ll never assume it is. I’m here to understand your version of it and help you figure out what more freedom could look like for you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy with me is human. You can expect me to be an active part of the conversation. I’ll ask questions, share what I’m noticing, help you connect some dots, and gently call you out when your brain is doing that thing where it makes a fear, rule, or assumption sound completely reasonable. There’s room for the serious stuff here, but there’s room for everything else, too. We can talk about the thing you’ve never said out loud and somehow end up laughing ten minutes later. You can tell me you ignored the coping skill, asked for reassurance anyway, followed the food rule, spent three hours overthinking something embarrassing, or “I cannot believe I’m about to say this out loud” parts are welcome here, too. Some days we’ll dig deep. Other days we might spend half the session untangling something that happened Tuesday afternoon that you swore wasn’t a big deal. We’ll follow what matters, get curious about the patterns that keep showing up, and work toward helping you feel a little more able to trust yourself outside of our sessions.

Therapy is an investment. And we’re not just talking about the money. Therapy asks for your time, energy, vulnerability, and willingness to do things differently; sometimes before you feel completely ready. Because showing up for yourself might mean challenging a food rule that feels incredibly convincing. Sitting with an intrusive thought without trying to solve it. Doing something imperfectly on purpose. Or questioning a belief about yourself that you’ve carried around for years. This work isn’t always easy. But neither is staying stuck. Therapy already asks you to step into the unknown; figuring out the logistics shouldn’t. Below, you’ll find clear information about fees, payment, and practice policies, so you know exactly what to expect before we get started. Session Fees Individual Therapy (50 minutes) - $250 The Within Collective is a private-pay, out-of-network practice, which means I do not accept insurance directly. However, many insurance plans include out-of-network benefits that may reimburse you for a portion of the cost of therapy. If you’d like to use these benefits, I can provide you with a monthly superbill to submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Because every plan is different, I recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits, deductible, and reimbursement rate. Reimbursement is determined by your insurance company and cannot be guaranteed.
