“Kerry undid a lot of the worries I had returning to therapy. I had previous experiences that kept me from trying it again for many years. She took every opportunity to support me in the specific ways I needed to feel supported. Her honesty and transparency about the progress I was making, the treatment itself, and what she felt would suit me or not made me feel safe and seen. I learned several techniques to temper my anxiety, depression, and PTSD that have now become part of my daily life and improved my mental health. I appreciate Kerry’s therapy style and would love to return to her in the future should I find myself needing support once again.”

Getting to know Kerry Cannon

Hi there, I'm Kerry! Kerry Cannon, LCSW. Throughout my career explorations, I've provided adult inpatient psychiatric care and outpatient case management support, psychotherapy, intensive care coordination for foster youth, foster youth adoption, case consults with hospital palliative care teams, and state policy writing for trauma-informed care. I earned my Master's in Social Work from California State University, Sacramento. My therapeutic approach in teletherapy services involves a collaborative, caring, transparent "come as you are" dynamic-no matter what your healing journey looks like-to reach your plan goals and help you move forward in your life. Common healing approaches I use include Psychodynamic Therapy, IPT, CBT, Humanistic Therapy, Culturally Sensitive care, Health at Every Size, SFBT, MBSR, Motivational Interviewing, REBT, and Social Work principles. I work with individuals, college students, retired people, and youth (ages 13–17). I've supported people facing stressors such as anxiety, life transitions, bipolar disorder, grief/loss, medical conditions including lung and prostate cancers, PMDD, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, insomnia, trauma and PTSD, self-esteem challenges, relationship issues, and dual diagnosis. I ask clarifying questions and sometimes offer reflective homework to build insight or provide healing opportunities to process. Sessions focus on what's on your mind and how you're functioning; I may ask for elaboration to better understand your experience or help you reframe thinking patterns to improve self-awareness. I listen to your strengths, symptoms, feelings, their frequency, and what already works in your coping toolbox. I also offer resources to help build that toolbox. The goal of working collaboratively on your plan is to help you build capacity, grit, and self-compassion so you can function better and eventually graduate from teletherapy services.

Kerry has a great bedside manner, truly listens and repeats what she heard and even shares of her own experiences to provide a level of comfort.
