Getting to know Kerry Luo

Kerry Luo is an Associate Social Worker who has experience providing individual and group therapy services to adolescents, adults, and families. Prior to working at TLA, she worked at Family Services of Santa Monica and the Torrance Unified School District, where she provided therapeutic services to individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds. She has training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Expressive Arts Therapy (EAT), Narrative Therapy (NT) and Problem-Solving Therapy (PST). Kerry earned her Master’s degree in Social Work from USC and her Bachelor of Science in Applied Psychology from New York University. The provider is a Registered Associate Clinical Social Worker.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Are your thoughts and emotions difficult to sit with? Do you have an inner critic that never seems to take a break? Do you identify as a chronic people pleaser? Many of my clients experience anxiety, depression, trauma symptoms, loss, and life transitions, and have grown up in cultural environments that stigmatize help-seeking. Utilizing various evidence-based practices, I will work with you to explore the origins of your unhealthy patterns and find practical ways to build self-compassion and attunement. I approach therapy as a healing space for you to show up authentically and empower yourself. I am extremely passionate about working with children of immigrants and first generation Americans who feel they need a place for their unique, intersectional experiences to be validated and explored.
