What should a new client know about working with you?

What should clients know about you. I am an immigrant from the UK. I have lived in the United States since 2001. I have most experience working with substance abuse and PTSD. I have served Veterans and first responders for the last five years. Veterans and first responders with either substance abuse and/or acute trauma (PTSD, if diagnosed) will find a sympathetic helper. I specialize in cognitive and somatic (body based) therapies especially in the early stages. Expect a friendly and warm relationship to develop.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I like to get to know the broad situation that my clients find themselves in. At least one, possibly two, sessions we will investigate what the symptoms are and especially where they come from. We will work both on physical symptoms, (racing heart, sweaty hands and fast breathing) and the thinking that goes with anxiety and acute trauma. I also work with clients who facing some of the life changes we all have to navigate. For this I use Acceptance Commitment Therapy to clarify values and to chart a route forward. This sort of therapy often takes a medium amount of time. It is not a quick fix.
