Getting to know Kim Dickens

Do you struggle with trust? Intimacy? The fear of being rejected? Anxiety, anger, guilt, shame, sadness, self-sabotaging behaviors, substance abuse? These are all common responses to abandonment, trauma, and sexual abuse. There is hope. You can heal. I am living proof that therapy works. I will provide you a safe space built on trust, compassion, reassurance, and optimism, grounded in evidence-based practice theories and interventions. My goal is to partner with you, capitalizing on your strengths to create insights into the why's and how's of your life. Together, we can develop new, healthier thinking patterns and behaviors so you can have the life you have always wanted and deserve. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University and have experience working with adolescents, individuals, couples, those with addictions, hospice patients, and families in a variety of settings.

What should a new client know about working with you?

During our first session, we will discuss the reason you sought out therapy, and identify your goals. My desire is that you feel comfortable, safe, and understood so that we can establish a positive therapeutic alliance. Our sessions moving forward will focus on exploring and identifying negative thinking, and behavior patterns. Together we will examine the origins of these negative patterns. At times, sessions may be highly emotional, however, I will always attempt to end it on an upbeat note. Walking away feeling hopeful is a good session, and my aspiration for you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

She's amazing. She lets me get it out and cry if I need to. She listens and gives appropriate feedback.

I’ve had many therapists but not as genuine and patient as Mrs Dickens. There’s just a warmth about her, she’s understanding, and engaged. I actually look forward to our sessions.
Absolutely awesome! She wants to help and asks tough questions that really help open your eyes to issues you don’t realize you have/see(in a positive way). She does give you her honest opinion and doesn’t judge you.
She is very kind
The whole thing felt really cold. Just wasn’t vibes for me. We are battling some very serious stuff and just wanted some help with effective communication. I feel I gave a great synopsis of the issues prior to meeting and it felt nothing i poured out in writing was read. No, I would not go back again.

She’s awesome. I was struggling to find my self attractive or good looking, probably hated myself, to be honest, and she has made me feel way better about myself. She has made me recognize all the good that there’s within me and gave me the tools I needed to learn how to calm my thoughts down. I totally recommend her with my eyes closed. She’s GREAT!
