Kimberly Berman, LCSW

Psychotherapist
146 Beach 9Th St, Unit 2D, Far Rockaway, NY
An overwhelming amount of people are feeling anxious, stressed, and "down", especially since Covid. I will try to help clients counter intrusive, negative messages, which can be very destructive, and damage one's self esteem. I will try to assist clients with working through trauma, crises, loss, and whatever life challenges they are experiencing, by equipping them with coping mechanisms, a tool box for life. I also deal with people going through life changes, at all stages, and guiding them through the difficulties as they morph into another period in their lives, with new challenges. Mindfulness is very important, and very useful, when things get tough. I call it "keeping your head where your feet are" at all times. This can be hard, and takes time and effort. Motivation is also important, in order for people to make change. Change can be scary, even when we think we really want it, and feel we are ready for change. "Under stress, we all regress". Having this in mind is helpful when progress in therapy feels stagnated. Although there are several themes and commonalities that run through various issues, each individual's experience is their own unto themselves. This needs to be acknowledged and validated at all times. Sometimes, normalization helps one to feel more assured that they are not the only ones dealing with similar issues. I go at the client's pace. I may check in with a client, to see if they are ready to go to the next stage of therapy; but would never go there without feeling confident that they are ready for the next step.
