Getting to know Kimberly Feeney

I’m Kim Feeney, a Licensed Independent Social Worker and Registered Play Therapist. With advanced training in Adlerian Play Therapy and over a decade of experience, I believe that healing and growth happen best in safe, supportive, and creative spaces. In my work, I use play as the language of children, helping them express what words cannot capture. Together, we explore emotions, build coping skills, and strengthen connections with caregivers. What should a new client know about working with you?

When we work together, you can expect a safe, supportive, and playful environment where your child is free to express themselves in their own way. I use play therapy and sandtray therapy because children often communicate best through play rather than words. You may see your child building, creating, or storytelling—these activities are part of the therapeutic process and help me understand their inner world. My style is collaborative and encouraging. I believe that parents and caregivers are an essential part of the healing process, so I’ll partner with you to share insights, strategies, and tools you can use at home. Together, we’ll build on your child’s strengths, foster resilience, and create more connection in your family. I approach therapy with patience, warmth, and curiosity. My goal is not only to help your child cope with challenges but also to empower your whole family to thrive.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first few meetings, I’ll spend time getting to know your child and your family. This usually begins with an intake session where we talk about your child’s strengths, challenges, and goals. I also gather history and answer your questions so we can create a plan together. For children, sessions often look like play, but the play has purpose. Using toys, art, and sandtray therapy, I help children express feelings, practice new skills, and work through challenges in a way that feels natural and safe for them. With teens, I may blend play and creative activities with more traditional talk therapy, depending on their comfort level. Parents and caregivers are always an important part of the process. I provide regular check-ins to share observations and offer strategies you can use at home. Over time, we’ll track progress together, celebrate growth, and adjust goals as needed. My approach is steady, collaborative, and focused on building resilience and connection both in and outside the therapy room.
