Getting to know Kimberly Lane

I have provided therapy in community mental health agencies, private practice and have also worked as a crisis clinician for emergency services. I specialize in helping those who struggle with anxiety, depression, OCD, substance abuse and general life transitions that may be causing distress.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I love to watch my clients grow, move outside of the box they’ve confined themselves to, spread their wings and fly! I will help you determine the areas of your life that you want to work on. Life is a series of transitions: childhood to adolescence, footloose and fancy free years turn to the parenthood years, for some, then the bittersweet pill of “the empty nest”. That’s only one layer of our complexities. Some people have pre-existing mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, bi-polar and OCD that can be exacerbated by stressors or transitions. There are relationship transitions involving separation, divorce, co-parenting, becoming widowed. There’s also the trauma of life: abuse, neglect, witnessing horrific events, going through divorce, debilitating diseases, substance abuse, watching a loved one suffering, bereavement. I don’t have a cookie cutter approach because you are not a cookie and I am not a cookie cutter. I draw mostly from techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, exposure response prevention, strengths based, solution focused and gentle reprocessing of trauma; I don’t believe in a one size fits all approach. Each one of you is unique and I will treat you that way. I will meet you where you are at and together we will devise a game plan, written in pencil, not sharpy. I look forward to being part of your journey.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first few sessions we will get to know each other and I will want to know more about your background and history, what your past experiences with therapy may have been like, what brings you to therapy. What are you hoping to achieve? We will identify your strengths and assess your toolbox of already existing mental health skills. From there we will develop a plan together. I understand how difficult it can be schedule appointments if you’re working a Monday through Friday, 9-5 job; which is why I offer some evening and weekend appointments to truly be able to meet you where you are at. I am passionate about this work because I’m not only a provider but also a person with lived experience of mental health issues and someone was there for me when I needed it. I want to pass it on.
