Getting to know Dr. Kimberly McGlothin

In my 25+ years as a psychologist, I have worked in college mental health, served as a dean of counseling at MIT, and directed a group practice. I earned my PhD in Psychology from the University of Connecticut, which provided a strong foundation for my clinical work. In my role directing a group practice, I have worked with adults and adolescents addressing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, school and job stress, parenting and other relationship issues, and various life transitions. While I consider myself well grounded in psychological theory, I don't believe that any one school of thought has all the answers. Like most therapists, I draw from multiple orientations, taking care to focus on what best fits a client's needs rather than on preconceived clinical bias.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients have said they find me warm, down to earth, and knowledgeable without being "too shrink-y." I value compassion, practicality, and humor, and try to keep these priorities in mind in my work with people. Years of practice have given me both deep respect for those who seek help and genuine optimism about people's capacity for meaningful change.
