Kimberly Nelson-Thomas, LCSW

Psychotherapist
PA
When humans experience trauma, unexpected life transitions, and severe stressors, we can unravel and feel stuck with no way of coping. My passion is bringing healing to clients of all ages who have experienced traumatic or stressful events. I help my clients, including children starting at age 13 and adults, find healthy ways to process and cope with individual stressors and begin to develop a healthier self-perception. I use various therapeutic approaches, understanding that a single method may not fit the needs of every client. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, Person-Centered Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. I specialize in trauma, working with individuals with PTSD, anxiety, and depression associated with traumatic experiences. My educational background includes a Master's in Social Work from Bryn Mawr College. I am a Pennsylvania Licensed Clinical Social Worker. As a former police officer, I have practiced social work for the last 20 years, working with all ages and addressing trauma and its sometimes long-lasting effects. I am here and ready to work with you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

On our first session, we assess for safety and address any urgent needs if any present. We will begin establishing our "space"; I want patients to tell me how best to make their therapeutic space as safe as possible. The patient can begin to share what brought them to counseling and explain how they feel this process can help; identify the primary desired outcome of therapy.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
