“I can't say enough good things about Kimberly Polonsky, and how she's helped everyone in my family immensely. We had struggled to find a counselor for our young son during the height of COVID when so many people were looking for treatment. Kimberly came recommended to us and once we met with her we knew she was the perfect fit. My son adores her and has made enormous strides and remarkable improvement since he started speaking with her regularly over a year ago. Kimberly has made such a difference in connecting with everyone in my family that I also began one on one sessions with her, and then my husband and I began couples sessions as well. Kimberly is easy to talk to, provides great feedback and strategies, and is very encouraging and helpful. We are extremely grateful for her.”

Getting to know Kimberly Polonsky

*** Please note: Kimberly does not accept commercial insurance. She is private pay only and can work with you to develop a sliding scale fee if needed.**** With over 20 years of experience in counseling, social work, and education, I am dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of others. My name is Kimberly Polonsky, and my professional journey has been defined by a caring, compassionate, and empathetic approach toward helping individuals, couples, and families overcome challenges and find healing from stressful experiences. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Temple University and a Certificate in School Counseling from Rosemont College. Throughout my career, I have worked with diverse populations, ranging from children to adults and couples. I firmly believe that every individual deserves a safe and supportive environment to explore their emotions and navigate life's difficulties. As a counselor, I strive to be an advocate for the unique needs of my clients, providing them with the tools and support necessary to lead fulfilling lives. By fostering a sense of trust and understanding, I will help you explore your emotions, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and build resilience. My goal is to empower you to navigate challenges with confidence. My approach is rooted in the belief that everyone has the capacity to heal and grow. I understand that seeking help can be a vulnerable process, and I strive to create a safe and supportive environment where individuals feel comfortable sharing their stories. By combining evidence-based techniques with a personalized and compassionate approach, I empower my clients to achieve their personal goals and live fulfilling lives.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a therapist, my style is characterized by flexibility and a strong commitment to tailoring therapy approaches to meet the unique individual needs of my clients. I believe that each person is on their own personal journey, and it is essential to adapt therapeutic techniques to their specific circumstances and goals. In my practice, I draw upon various therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Therapy, while integrating the principles of Adlerian psychology. By combining these approaches, I aim to provide a comprehensive and holistic framework for addressing my clients' concerns. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) forms the foundation of my practice, as it focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Through collaborative exploration, I assist my clients in identifying negative or unhelpful patterns of thinking and develop healthier cognitive processes. By challenging and reframing these thoughts, individuals can experience positive shifts in their emotions and behaviors. Furthermore, I incorporate Solution-Focused Therapy into my approach, which emphasizes finding practical solutions to present challenges rather than solely focusing on past difficulties. This approach empowers individuals to identify their strengths, resources, and goals, leading to actionable steps towards positive change. Together, we explore possibilities and develop strategies that support progress and enhance overall well-being. In addition to CBT and Solution-Focused Therapy, I draw inspiration from Adlerian psychology. This perspective emphasizes the significance of understanding an individual within the context of their social environment and their unique subjective experiences. Kimberly does not provide medication management.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical session with me is designed to create a supportive and collaborative environment where we can work together towards your personal growth and well-being. At the beginning of each session, we will start by providing a brief summary of what was discussed in our previous session. This recap allows us to build upon previous insights and progress, ensuring continuity in our therapeutic journey. After the recap, we will dedicate time to gather information about how your week has been since our last session. This part of the session provides an opportunity for you to reflect on your experiences, emotions, and any challenges you may have encountered. Sharing these details helps me gain a deeper understanding of your current circumstances and allows us to explore them together. Once we have a clear picture of your week, we will collaboratively establish goals for the current session. These goals may range from exploring specific concerns or emotions to developing practical strategies for managing certain situations. By setting clear objectives, we ensure that our session remains focused and purposeful. Throughout the session, we will work together to identify and explore various approaches to achieving the goals we have set. This may involve discussing different perspectives, challenging unhelpful thoughts, exploring coping strategies, or practicing new skills. I will provide guidance, support, and feedback to help you navigate through any obstacles and facilitate your personal growth.

We sought Kimberly's services for our 11 yo son who was struggling with feelings of sadness and having social struggles. From the very first meeting, Kimberly was attentive to our concerns as parents, and listened to our hopeful goals for counseling. Our son wasn't too keen on speaking with someone, but from the moment he met Kimberly she made him feel completely at ease. She used many different techniques to keep him engaged while also building rapport. Our son quickly felt safe with Kimberly, and we began seeing an improvement in his outlook on life within the first few sessions. Over the course of the year, thanks to Kimberly, we have our funny, out-going, and now confident son back who is flourishing academically and socially! Thank you Kimberly!
I have been working with Kim for almost a year now and she is fantastic! She is very professional, personable and easy to talk with. She is a very helpful therapist, and she will go out of her way to make sure she always helps with your problem, even if it goes over her time(or just to answer some extra emails when you are struggling). Would highly recommend!
