Getting to know Kimberly Rivera

The provider is a “Licensed Professional Counselor" and their license number is 37PC01008800. Are you neurodivergent and feeling burned out from masking, misunderstood in relationships, or unsure how to communicate your needs? I’m Kimberly Rivera, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) with a background in education (M.Ed.), offering affirming, trauma-informed therapy for neurodivergent adults, neurodivergent couples, and polyamorous relationships. I work with ADHD and autistic clients (adults, teens, and families), including those who are self-diagnosed, late-diagnosed, or questioning, and support individuals and partners with communication differences, emotional regulation, burnout, masking, and executive functioning challenges. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex, queer, asexual, non-traditional, and allied clients. I use approaches like CBT, solution-focused, mindfulness, and the Gottman Method (for couples) in flexible ways that honor your identity, communication style, and the kind of relationships that matter to you. Many neurodivergent clients feel misunderstood or overwhelmed. I help individuals and couples navigate neurodivergence while building practical tools and understanding that honor your authentic self and relationships. Many clients come to therapy frustrated by systems that don’t understand them. I work to help you understand yourself and build practical tools, not to "fix" you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I provide affirming therapy for neurodivergent adults, couples, and polyamorous relationships. I support ADHD and autistic clients, as well as LGBTQIA and diverse-identity clients, helping them navigate communication, emotional regulation, and relational challenges with understanding and respect. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in NJ and PA and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) with 7 years of experience in the mental health field. I bring knowledge from a variety of roles into therapy to support each client in a personalized, strengths-based way. Therapy with me is collaborative, affirming, and practical. You can expect both validation and tools that you can use in your daily life. If you’re tired of feeling misunderstood or stuck, reach out and we can see if working together feels like the right fit.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I am LGBTQIA+ affirming for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex, queer, and asexual clients. I draw from an eclectic approach including CBT, person-centered therapy, mindfulness, and the Gottman Method for couple's work, always tailoring therapy to fit your unique needs rather than forcing you into a one-size-fits-all model.

Kimberly is always super wonderful to do sessions with. She approaches issues with genuine interest and curiosity and makes you feel very comfortable speaking to her about your issues. I have never felt judged, misunderstood or rushed in our sessions. I really enjoy the time I get during my sessions working with her on bettering myself and reaching certain milestones in my mental health journey. I cannot recommend her enough!
I absolutely adore Kim. I am so grateful for her insights, her ability to really hear what I’m saying, and helping me grow in difficult ways. She is one of the best mental health care providers I have ever encountered. I would highly recommend her to any perspective patients!!
Kim has been my therapist for the last 1.5 years and I have thoroughly enjoyed having her as my dedicated mental health professional. She is extremely helpful and has helped me overcome challenges in my life that I wouldn’t have known of if not for her. She is LGBTQ+ friendly and very understanding of different circumstances in patients’ lives, I would highly recommend her to anyone.
Kimberly Rivera is always amazing. She helps me understand myself and others better. My sessions with her ground my weeks and are a huge benefit to my mental health.
Kimberly Rivera is the best! I would continue seeing her if it weren’t for the fact that I was moving out of state. She is very patient and tries to meet the patient where they’re at. She does a good job of holding me accountable to my progress too. I have never met a therapist that understands my needs as someone who is a queer, neurodivergent person of color… until I met Kimberly!
