Getting to know Kimmarie Kearns-Vinal

Trauma Healing Support — Healing the trauma underneath the competence. If your body stays on high alert long after the danger has passed, trauma may be driving what you're experiencing. Trauma Healing Support is a private-pay, trauma-specialized practice for high-functioning adults — the accomplished, capable people who look fine and aren't. If you've done therapy, understand your patterns, and still react from the same old place under pressure, you're who this work is built for.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Calm, clarity, and steadiness are learnable — even after years of bracing. We work at the level of the nervous system, not just the symptoms, so change happens at the root. Treatment integrates EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and attachment-informed therapy in a structured, collaborative way. Sessions are paced to build regulation and internal safety first — especially if you've felt overwhelmed, misunderstood, or "too much" in previous therapy. EMDR Intensives. For those who want real movement without a year of weekly sessions, we offer EMDR intensives: deep, focused trauma work in a condensed format, delivered as a complete package — careful preparation and stabilization, concentrated processing, and integration afterward. Depth, done safely. September and October dates are open now, and limited. Practice led by KimMarie Kearns-Vinal, LICSW, M.Ed. — EMDRIA-certified, IFS-level 2 trained, and somatically informed, with over a decade focused on trauma in high-functioning adults. Telehealth across Massachusetts, Connecticut, South Carolina, and Florida.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Every client begins with a consultation and screening rather than a first appointment. Screening confirms clinical fit and timing — it protects the quality of the work and makes sure you're getting the right level of care from the start. From there, we build before we go deeper. Early sessions focus on stabilization: understanding your history, mapping how your nervous system responds under pressure, and building internal resources and regulation skills you can actually reach when you're activated. Many people arrive already understanding their patterns intellectually. The gap is access — knowing what to do and not being able to get there in the moment. That's what this phase closes. Only once the ground is steady do we approach trauma processing, using EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS). A typical session is structured and collaborative, not open-ended talk. We work with what shows up in your body and in the parts of you that carry protection, reactivity, and old pain. The pace is set by your nervous system, never by a schedule. Slowing down is not a setback — it's how this work stays safe and holds. For those who want concentrated work, EMDR intensives follow the same arc in a condensed format: preparation and stabilization, focused processing, then integration. Throughout, we track outcomes rather than assume progress. If something isn't working, we say so and adjust. And if what surfaces calls for a different level of care, I'll tell you that too — honestly, and with a plan.

More information on payments and coverage

Trauma Healing Support is a private-pay practice. Individual sessions are $250. EMDR intensives are priced as a complete package — preparation, processing, and integration together — and confirmed at your consultation once we've chosen the right format. Being private-pay is a clinical choice, not just a financial one. It means treatment length and pacing are determined by your nervous system and our clinical judgment, not by a utilization reviewer. It means no diagnosis is required in your permanent insurance record to justify care. And it means the work goes at the depth and speed the work actually needs. Out-of-network reimbursement. A superbill is provided after each session, which you can submit to your insurer. Many plans reimburse a portion of out-of-network care. Before starting, it's worth calling your insurer and asking three questions: Do I have out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits? What percentage of the fee is reimbursed after my deductible? What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much of it have I met? HSA and FSA funds can typically be used for sessions and intensives. Payment plans are available for intensives, which lowers the felt cost without reducing the care. Access. A limited number of scholarship spots are held each season for survivors of violence. If cost is the only thing standing between you and this work, say so at consultation and we'll talk honestly about options — including a warm referral to a clinician who is the right fit and the right price. Payment is due at the time of service and processed securely through our practice platform.
