Kona Gleitsman, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
After earning my undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley, I spent several years traveling the world before pursuing further education. I earned two Master?s degrees, the second from National University in Marriage and Family Therapy. I have been working as a therapist for close to five years and have over 15 years of experience as a counselor with children, adolescents, and families. After my first graduate school, I built my own academic counseling business, fostering strong relationships with families and the community. This experience working closely with hundreds of local families gave me valuable insight into the power of supportive, goal-oriented, client-centered, positive relationships as catalysts for change in individuals and relational systems. My clinical expertise includes therapy with children, adolescents, and couples, both individually and in family groups. I have a wide range of experience working with at-risk and high-need populations from diverse demographics, demonstrating a high level of cultural competency. I am skilled in diagnosis, case conceptualization, and treatment, with experience addressing trauma, severe mental illness, and addiction. I am also a credentialed Triple P parenting provider. My clinical orientation incorporates solution-focused, CBT, trauma-informed, recovery, and mindfulness models. I began my therapeutic practice as a school counselor, working with children and families affected by immigration stressors, gang violence, mental health and substance use issues, poverty, domestic violence and abuse, cultural conflicts, and other risk factors. Additionally, I have worked for several years with families referred by Child Welfare Services for abuse and neglect and have experience with a wide range of diagnoses and treatments. I feel comfortable and capable working with clients from all walks of life, from high-functioning, mentally stable individuals with great insight to those with more severe diagnoses or multiple risk factors.
