Kortney joins Legacy as a 2nd year intern in the Masters of Social Work program from the University at Albany. Previously, she received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice from Cazenovia College. Kortney comes from a diverse background and has worked with many different populations. Earlier in her career, she worked with unhoused adults that had chemical dependency and gambling addiction. Kortney has worked with youth ranging from 5 to 18 years of age. She has extensive training and experience working with youth in foster care. She also has experience working with those involved in the juvenile system, truancy concerns, chemical dependency issues and mental health struggles. Through her time spent with these populations, she also gained knowledge and implementation in Crisis Intervention. Kortney focuses on CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and working with a child’s support system to help navigate through any challenges they are enduring. In her previous internship, Kortney spent time working for Hospice where she focused on supporting clients and family members following a terminal illness diagnoses.. While with Hospice, she also helped with bereavement support to clients who have experienced loss. Kortney is passionate about helping mothers feel supported, and that no topic is too taboo to discuss. She has created a local network called M.O.M.S (moms offering moms support), in an effort to help mothers receive support following childbirth. Kortney’s goal is to help new mothers find their new identity while providing a safe and supportive environment. Kortney focuses on empowerment and helping clients strive to be their best self. She understands the role of relationship building and believes that there is not a “one size fits all when it comes to therapy”. Kortney will work with you on determining what works best for your lifestyle and needs in an effort to help find solutions and answers.
