Hi, I’m Kristen Burger. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Bay Area native, and a devoted dog mom. At my core, I’m someone who believes deeply in the power of being truly seen. I care about meaningful connection, quiet moments of understanding, and creating spaces where people can exhale and be themselves. For more than 20 years, I’ve had the honor of listening to people’s stories and walking alongside them during some of the hardest, most tender chapters of their lives.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work with adults, children, and families, and my heart is especially rooted in early childhood (ages 0–5). I find deep purpose in supporting young children and the parents and caregivers who love them—particularly those navigating attachment, child welfare involvement, foster care and adoption, medical challenges, grief and loss, and trauma. I also work with adults up to age 64 and feel a strong sense of care and commitment to BIPOC communities, veterans, individuals moving through divorce, survivors of domestic violence, and anyone carrying loss. When it feels important to you, I’m also open to thoughtfully incorporating Catholic values into our work together. The way I show up as a therapist is collaborative, grounded, and very human. I don’t believe in fixing people. I believe in listening deeply, staying curious, and helping you reconnect with your own strengths—especially the ones that may feel buried or forgotten right now. I draw from trauma-informed care, CBT, DBT, narrative and art therapy, positive psychology, parent–child interaction, and attachment-focused approaches, always adapting to what fits you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first session, what matters most to me is that you feel comfortable and understood. Therapy doesn’t have to be intimidating or polished. Questions, feedback, uncertainty, and even moments of “this isn’t working” are all welcome here. The work is strongest when it’s honest, relational, and shared.
