What should a new client know about working with you?

I strive to create a welcoming, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where you can feel comfortable being yourself. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and tailored to your individual needs. We will move at a pace that feels manageable for you. I take time to explain the therapeutic techniques we use and provide psychoeducation about trauma and trauma responses when appropriate. I may also gently challenge you when it could support your growth, while ensuring you feel heard, respected, and supported throughout the process. You do not need to have everything figured out before beginning therapy. If you are unsure where to start, cannot find the words to describe what you are experiencing, or do not yet know what you need help with, that is completely okay. Part of my role is helping you make sense of what you are feeling, identify what may be contributing to it, and determine what you would like to work toward. We can work through that process together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first few sessions focus on getting to know you and developing a better understanding of what brought you to therapy. We may explore your history, current concerns, strengths, relationships, and the changes you would like to see. If you are not sure what your goals are yet, we can identify them together as we begin recognizing patterns and making sense of your experiences. From there, we will collaboratively develop a treatment plan based on your needs and goals. I use evidence-based approaches and practical strategies tailored to each individual. I will explain the purpose of different techniques so you understand what we are doing and how it may help. When appropriate, I also provide education about trauma, the nervous system, and common trauma responses to help you understand the connection between your experiences and your current thoughts, emotions, and reactions. We will regularly discuss your progress and adjust our approach as needed. Your questions and feedback are always welcome.
