Getting to know Kristina Cofone

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of New Jersey. I earned my Master's in Social Work from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and hold a Bachelor's degree from Providence College. Throughout my career and training, I have supported a variety of clients facing numerous obstacles. While working as a therapist in partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs, I have helped clients develop the coping skills and tools needed to overcome anxiety, depression, eating disorders, life transitions, and much more. These professional experiences have allowed me to grow clinically and expand my knowledge base, learning cutting-edge therapeutic interventions that best serve my clients' needs. Upon entering therapy, my clinical approach is tailored to meet each individual's needs. There is no cookie-cutter person, and therefore no cookie-cutter approach to therapy. I work from an eclectic perspective, incorporating a variety of therapeutic modalities and backgrounds to assist clients in meeting their treatment goals. I generally integrate cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral, person-centered, strengths-based, solution-focused therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) strategies when clinically appropriate in each session. My clients and I identify struggles, develop empowerment strategies, and build strengths to improve quality of life. In a nonjudgmental and supportive environment, clients can feel safe to explore the problems they encounter. Although we may strive for perfection, no one is perfect, and we are all a work in progress. I welcome my clients with an open mind to listen to their concerns and answer any questions they may have. It is my hope that individual sessions will increase knowledge about mental illness, set realistic and attainable goals, find internal motivation, encourage healthy choices aimed toward recovery, and develop healthier coping habits. I am here to help!
