ME
My name is Kristine Bartos, and I am excited for the opportunity to collaborate with you. In both my professional work and personal life, I have discovered that truly understanding ourselves is a major component of any successful therapy. Self-knowledge empowers us to act consistently with our values and objectives despite the "noise" we hear from within and without. Therefore, a major foundation of my practice is cognitive behavioral therapy. It involves understanding how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors interact and developing expertise in the feedback loops of your own behavioral triad. I also incorporate a psychodynamic approach to address unresolved formative experiences as needed, along with practical guidance for symptom relief. Building coping skills for the here and now is essential to finding satisfaction in, and sticking with, the therapeutic journey. In addition to CBT, my background includes mindfulness-based practice and an interest in neuropsychology, both of which I integrate when indicated. My therapeutic style is warm and encouraging. Being goal- and action-oriented, I combine a safe and welcoming environment with a skill acquisition and progress-based approach. I earned a Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University and have since found my niche working with adults and adolescents in medical settings. My experience includes providing counseling and crisis intervention to clients presenting with a broad range of issues, including anxiety and depression, substance misuse and abuse, trauma, major chronic and/or life-threatening medical conditions, and other adjustment-related challenges. Working with such a diverse population has strengthened my belief in adapting my approach to you, the client, because our stories and challenges are unique. I would love to hear how I may be able to contribute to your life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I hope that each session provides you with insight about yourself, your relationships, or your world that you can actually use to realize progress toward your therapeutic goals. I also hope you find some lasting relief in simply verbalizing painful or challenging areas of your life in a caring and judgment-free setting. Finally, I hope you leave the session with a few definite or potential answers to your questions, but that you also leave with more questions! The processes of self-discovery and growth are lifelong and CAN be fun, exciting, and meaningful!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
