Most of us are exhausted. Fed up with lifelong patterns we feel stuck in, relational dynamics that don’t fulfill us, and a system designed to exploit. You might be the perfectionist quietly burning out, the child of immigrants shouldering pressure to succeed, or the non-conformist bearing profound loneliness from society’s outskirts. No matter the circumstances, you’ve been desperately holding it together for quite some time now, leaving very little room to find a way out of the struggle. You’ve found the right place if you’re one of us—sick and tired of feeling like life is hopelessly happening to you. Your mind evolved for survival, not happiness. It relentlessly generates noise (thoughts, urges, and emotions) to keep you “safe” in the short-term. There was a time in your life when going autopilot and letting your mind steer was the only way you could get through the day, but those same survival instincts are now keeping you stuck. In order to get unstuck, we will use mindfulness as a form of attentional training to build two key skills: 1) turning toward difficult emotions without being consumed by them, and 2) witnessing your thoughts and urges without obeying them. Ultimately, the goal of therapy is not to help you “feel good.” Rather, our work together will help you get good at feeling. This is how you reclaim your agency and find liberation from your past, turning behavior from a reflex into a conscious choice.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Despite familiarity with the clinical theories, I am not above the human condition—just another example of it. I grew up in Los Angeles as the oldest child of two immigrants in a split household, often finding shelter in my love for basketball, video games, and hip-hop. Whether I’m making a hoops metaphor or referencing a J. Cole bar, you can expect all of Kris to show up in the therapy room. My willingness to show up as I am is an invitation for you to do the same. This is not a space where you’re supposed to have it all figured out yet. This is simply where the work begins.
