Lacarma Browley, LMFT

Psychotherapist
SC
As far back as high school, I knew I wanted to major in Psychology. It took me years to get to the therapy section in my career. I have worked in many different social services sectors including: direct support for individuals with developmental disabilities, foster care, outpatient, inpatient, substance abuse, and severe mental health intensive outpatient/outpatient programs (IOP/OP). During these experiences, I developed skills that serve to help a variety of others today. My higher education started at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff where I completed my Bachelor of Science in Psychology and my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. I then moved to Connecticut where I completed my Master of Science in the discipline of Marriage and Family Therapy at Central Connecticut State University. While in school, I completed internships at Youth and Family Services for New Britain and East Hampton, Connecticut. The primary method of practice that I have adopted is Solution-Focused. I am in the process of completing my Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) training. In the future, I plan on achieving my certification in EMDR. I practice the Structural Family Therapy model within family systems. I have gained experience in working with families, couples, individuals, and groups. I have a passion for helping others. There is a sense of accomplishment in seeing someone change their narrative from that of a victim or survivor to that of someone who thrives. I believe that everyone is the primary authority on themselves. Gaining insight into their own issues and working to overcome them is an admirable goal for anyone seeking to be mentally healthy. My hope is to be an instrument in helping others achieve their goals.
