Getting to know Lan Schlecht
My life story began with a memorable childhood in a loving and caring family. In my 20’s, I devoted all of my energy towards getting accepted into a prestigious university, landing a well-paid job in a business corporation and showing the world how “successful” I could become. I did all of these and totally enjoyed the outcome until my life took a sharp turn in my 30’s when I was offered a job with a significantly large public school system. Unexpectedly, I started realizing the other facets of life involving my students and their families: conflicts, struggles, sufferings, dysfunctions, fears, etc. that can lie in multiple layers of a daily life with various manifestations. Out of intellectual curiosity, I decided to go back to graduate school, majoring in Social Work, with the hope that I can put all of these pieces together in a meaningful way. In addition to my bachelor degrees in business administration and law, and a master degree in Information Systems, I obtained a second master degree in Social Work at the University of Georgia and completed my LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) while continuously gaining clinical experiences and practicing therapy/counseling in a variety of settings: CORE providers, psychiatric hospital, community outreach activities and public schools since 2003.
On a side note: I was professionally trained in both accredited Oriental and Western educational Institutions. I also had an intensive professional experience working with international people during my early adulthood. I am knowledgeable and content in working with tweens/teens and their families who come from culturally diverse backgrounds. I am fluent in both English and Vietnamese languages.
Each of us is a wonderful life story that we can share with each other and with the world surrounding us for reciprocating support, learning and evolvement. Each of our lives is full of ingredients and spices that are worth exploring and discovering (sometimes in deeper levels) whether they are confusion, anger, pain, desperation, failure or loss, so that we can discover our own path, overcome our life obstacles, and manifest reasonable choices that lead us to the destination where we want to be.
With that being said, my approaches can include, but are not limited to, dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, stress management, mind, body and soul awareness or self-actualization process.
