Lance Henson, LPC

Psychotherapist
GA
I began my career in the behavioral health field in 1990 working as a psychiatric technician in an inpatient facility. This facility offered substance abuse treatment, as well as, child and adolescent, adult, and geriatric psychiatric care. This opportunity provided me valuable insight into a multitude of behavioral health issues across the human lifespan. In 1993, I joined the United States Navy where I served honorably for 6 years as a Hospital Corpsman, Field Medical Corpsman and Neuropsychiatric Technician. Upon discharge, I attended Forest Institute of Professional Psychology where I earned by M.A. in Clinical Psychology in 2004. I have been practicing independently in Georgia since 2008 and have had the pleasure of working in inpatient, outpatient, residential, correctional, government and military mental health milieus. My decades of experience have helped me develop a unique approach to therapy. First, I view therapy as similar to a GPS system. By understanding clearly where my clients are and where they specifically want to go, together we can navigate a path forward. Second, behavioral health therapy is much like physical therapy. In physical therapy, exercises are required to improve and maintain functioning in the effected area. Many times these exercises are uncomfortable or even painful; but if the exercises are not completed function in the effected area can be limited or even completely lost. I begin therapy assessing how my client are currently functioning in the major areas of their life; physical, social, occupational/educational, financial, spiritual, etc. Improving functioning is the first critical piece of successful therapy.
