Getting to know Lance Rao
Lance C. Rao was born and raised in New York, NY. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from Fordham University, where he was inducted into the National Honor Society Phi Sigma Tau. For the past five years, Lance has served as the President of the Palm Beach Fordham Alumni Chapter. He also holds a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Palm Beach Atlantic University.
Before opening his therapy practice in Stuart, Florida, Lance gained invaluable experience working at Sandy Pines Hospital in Tequesta, FL, Martin Girls Academy in Stuart, FL, and Suncoast Mental Health in Fort Pierce, FL. He has also published numerous articles on various mental health issues.
What should a new client know about working with you?
My approach is solution focused and proactive. Working as a team, we try to gain biographical insight and to confront obstacles, thereby changing and developing skills that lead to confident decision making and lasting solutions. My work is characterized by empathy, optimism and collaboration. I am straightforward without being harsh, and encouraging without being judgmental.
I work with individuals confronted by various personal problems such as dating and relationship issues; infidelity; break-ups or divorce; parenting; career matters; sexual concerns; mid-life crises; addictions; family problems; depression; anxiety and stress management and many more.
My clients depart from our counseling sessions feeling stronger, empowered, and self-aware. This ultimately enhances their ability to connect on a more intimate level in all interpersonal relationships.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
I primarily use techniques adapted from psychodynamic theory, cognitive behavioral theory and interpersonal neurobiology. These disciplines combined together create a powerful lens through which we can understand our inner lives with more clarity and improve our relationships with others.

Total waste of time. I don’t think he’s a good listener. He forgot key things we discussed and didn’t follow up on issues that clearly needed attention. The sessions were filled with long, awkward silences, followed by generic advice that felt like something you could get from a quick Google search or any basic AI. He ignored the bigger problems I brought up and focused on minor details that didn’t matter nearly as much. I constantly felt like I was spinning my wheels while he fed me canned therapy lines you’d find in a beginner’s guide, then acted as if he had just offered something deep and worth reflecting on.

The practitioner is very friendly and accessible however could provide more structured sessions or utilize a particular method to move forward or achieve a certain goal in therapy overall a very nice person methods may not be for everyone or someone who needs coping skills
