Lannie Lee, LMFT

Psychotherapist
MA
I work with individuals and couples who may be doing a lot on the outside while feeling anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in familiar patterns on the inside. You might find yourself overthinking, struggling to express what you need, questioning your own decisions, or having the same conversations in your relationships without feeling like anything really changes. My approach is warm, collaborative, and conversational. I’m interested not only in helping you understand why you think, feel, or respond the way you do, but also in helping that understanding translate into something different in your day-to-day life. That might mean feeling more confident expressing your needs, trusting yourself and your decisions, responding differently when anxiety takes over, or communicating with the people in your life in ways that feel clearer and more connected. I work with concerns including anxiety, stress and burnout, life transitions, relationship dissatisfaction, communication difficulties, recurring conflict, emotional disconnection, family dynamics, identity, and cultural or family expectations. I also work with couples and other meaningful relationships, including family members and parent/adult-child relationships. As a Korean American therapist, I bring a culturally attuned perspective to my work and understand that our relationships with family, culture, identity, and expectations can shape how we understand ourselves and what we believe we “should” do. These experiences can be part of our work when they’re relevant, without needing to be the focus. I offer virtual therapy to clients in California and Massachusetts. If you’re ready to get started, you’re welcome to book an initial session here. If you’d prefer to connect first, I also offer a free 15-minute video consultation through my website.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style is warm, conversational, and interactive. I’m not the kind of therapist who will sit quietly and leave you wondering what I’m thinking. I’ll ask questions, share observations, and help you look at situations from different angles, while making sure our work stays connected to what matters to you. I work collaboratively and pay close attention to the patterns that show up in how you relate to yourself and the people in your life. We might look at what happens when you’re anxious or overwhelmed, why it can be hard to express what you need, or how you and your partner keep ending up in the same conversation despite genuinely wanting things to go differently. Insight is important, but understanding why you do something doesn’t always make it easier to change. I want therapy to help you recognize what’s happening in real time, respond with more intention, communicate more clearly, and feel more confident in your own decisions and relationships. As a Korean American therapist, I also bring a culturally attuned perspective to our work. There’s room to consider family, culture, identity, and expectations when they’re relevant without assuming they have to be the focus. You don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what you want to work on or having the “right” way to talk about it. I value honest, natural conversations, and there’s plenty of room for humor along the way.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy with me is collaborative and shaped by what’s happening in your life. Sessions often begin with a check-in about what’s been on your mind or what feels most important to talk about that day. You don’t need to arrive with a perfectly formed agenda—we can figure out together where it makes sense to focus. As we talk, I’ll ask questions, reflect back what I’m noticing, and help us slow down moments that might otherwise be easy to move past. We may connect what’s happening now to recurring patterns, earlier experiences, relationships, or expectations that influence how you respond. With couples and relationship clients, we’ll also pay attention to what happens between you in real time—not just what you disagree about, but how conversations unfold, where you get stuck, and what each person may be trying to communicate or protect. Over time, the goal is to move beyond simply understanding what’s happening. We’ll look for opportunities to practice responding differently, communicate needs more directly, and make choices that feel more intentional and aligned with what matters to you. Some sessions may be reflective, others more practical, and often they’re a mix of both. I’ll continue checking in about what’s helpful so our work can evolve with you.
