Lara Hanneman, MA

Psychotherapist
NY
I support young adults and professionals in navigating life transitions, emotional overwhelm, relationship challenges, and the quiet weight of past experiences. In our work together, I offer a steady, compassionate presence where you can slow down, make sense of what you’re carrying, and feel less alone. Together, we aim to curate a space to reconnect with yourself, build clarity and self-trust, and move through life with more ease and intention. My energy in sessions is steady, warm, and gently challenging- creating a space where honesty and growth can coexist. Outside of work, I’m someone who appreciates meaningful conversation, humor, and moments that help me feel grounded. I aim to offer a space that feels human, safe, and a little lighter to step into. If you’re feeling hesitant, that makes sense—beginning something new often does. You don’t have to be in crisis to start therapy; you just have to be open to showing up. I offer a calm, supportive space where we can move at a pace that feels right for you. Lara Hanneman has a Master’s degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Lara Hanneman is a Mental Health Counselor – Limited Permit (MHC-LP), #18-P135248-01 (NY). Supervised by Alexis Walker, Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), #015160.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I practice with a relational, trauma-informed clinical style that is rooted in deep attunement to each client’s lived experience. I bring a calm, steady presence into the room, blending evidence-based interventions (CBT, DBT, and ACT) with warmth, curiosity, and flexibility to meet clients where they are. Drawing from both my training and my natural ability to create safety and connection, I support meaningful, sustainable change by helping clients feel seen, understood, and empowered in their healing.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I hope for our sessions to be a place where you don’t have to perform, explain everything perfectly, or have it all figured out. My presence is steady, curious, and grounded, offering support that feels gentle yet intentional as we make sense of what’s coming up together (I'll throw in a joke too if its appropriate). I came to this work out of a deep respect for the ability to be seen, and hope to foster a space to not only see you, but help you see yourself.
