Psychotherapist
CO
Hello! I’m Lara, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Certified Addictions Specialist (CAS). My journey in mental health care began with my own experiences of adapting to new environments, which taught me the value of connection and the power of listening. This personal insight guided me towards a career in psychology and sociology, eventually leading to a Master's Degree and a fulfilling career in therapy. I have dedicated my career to treating Co-Occurring Disorders, gaining invaluable experience in various settings. My professional path started at a local detox facility, where I provided both group and individual therapy during my internship and subsequent employment. In 2005, I moved to Colorado and worked at an Outpatient Addiction facility, focusing on individual therapy and earning my addiction counseling certification and LPC. My work in Denver with women facing trauma, homelessness, addiction, and mental health issues further honed my skills in therapy, case management, and group therapy. This role was pivotal in completing my LPC requirements and deepening my understanding of complex mental health issues. My time at a hospital setting allowed me to strengthen my clinical skills, particularly in assessing and evaluating serious mental illnesses and substance use disorders. Currently, I provide group therapy for adults with co-occurring disorders and individual therapy through SonderMind. My approach is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which I find highly effective in alleviating symptoms of depression, anxiety, and addiction. I also incorporate Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and holistic practices like yoga to enhance the therapeutic process and help clients expand their awareness of available resources. Through therapy, I aim to help you explore your emotions and thoughts, introducing healthier and more realistic thinking patterns.
