Hi there, I'm Larry!
My name is Larry Bates. I hold a License in Professional Counseling in the state of Oregon. I believe there are many paths to healing and change in one's life, but all of us sometimes get stuck or could use help to handle life’s challenges, and that is where counseling can make a difference. I will meet you where you are in a non-judgmental and supportive way to begin to explore what brings you to seek counseling and what changes you hope to achieve. My goal is to support clients to achieve lasting positive change.
My approach
My treatment style is eclectic and individualized. I utilize a number of different approaches including Strength-Based, Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
My focus
My client focus is typically individual sessions with children, adolescents, and adults who are experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, life transitions, stress, self-esteem/confidence issues, and grief/loss. I work collaboratively with clients to develop goals for treatment that are meaningful and achievable.
My communication style
I strive to create a relaxed, supportive, and safe environment. I utilize active listening to ensure clients feel heard and respected. I have a calm, accepting demeanor and work to create a safe space where healing and growth can take place.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to Professional Counseling began with a desire to help others and make a positive difference in the world. I have been the beneficiary of counseling services myself and have experienced firsthand how it helped me get through tough challenges when I felt stuck. As I considered my future vocation, it seemed like a great fit for me to help others in this way. To that end, I pursued a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from George Fox University and then obtained my professional counselor license.
