Getting to know LaShara Shaw

Hi there, I'm LaShara! I am passionate about helping clients discuss their experiences and navigate decisions while promoting wellness. Life is filled with choices, connections, and sometimes worry about embracing life-flourishing activities. Some periods include suffering, and I desire to ally with clients so they do not face hardships alone. I aspire to foster a safe space to explore events, beliefs, consequences, communication styles, and new outcomes. My hope is for clients to access evidence-based practices that build strengths, purpose, and understanding. I hold a Master’s in Rehabilitation Mental Health Counseling from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Master’s in Biblical Studies from Colorado Christian University, which inform my holistic approach to care. My approach My therapeutic approaches include interpersonal therapy, grief work, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, existential therapy, reality therapy, trauma-focused therapy, and person-centered methods. My focus I welcome clients aiming to address life goals while making room for grief work, recognizing that as one chapter closes, the next may include suffering. I also support individuals examining life transitions to improve self-awareness, strengthen relationships, and practice tactical communication. My communication style I bring a calming disposition to each session, approaching every individual with compassion, care, and attention to their unique experiences. I strive to notice events affecting their lives so we can navigate automatic thoughts together. I listen as clients become aware of what happens to their bodies and moods, exploring ways to create new effects that improve wellbeing. My first session with you The first session is a getting-to-know-you process. It helps to have questions and information ready to share that you feel comfortable documenting.
