Getting to know Latavia Agada

IMPORTANT NOTE: I want you to know that I solely provide psychotherapy. I DO NOT prescribe medications. However, we do refer out to a psychiatrist group if medication is a consideration. Also, I am part of a group practice, so you may be seeing one of my clinicians—Mona Hauck or Jessica Motta Carvajal. You can see them pictured in the "photos" section. One of them will reach out to you with a video call invitation to Simple Practice for your first session. We value transparency and do not want you to be surprised or disappointed! Greetings! My name is Latavia Agada, and I have been a licensed clinical social worker for the past nine years. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Chicago and my Bachelor’s degree from Swarthmore College. This is work I love to do, as it is a profession that is selfless yet rewarding. I love sitting with clients as they confront difficulties as well as their times of celebration. I have seen so much progress from my clients over the years, and I can only applaud them for the hard work they do in challenging trauma, negative cognitions, and future uncertainties. With that being said, I would love to listen to you and challenge you to be a healthy version of yourself and to tap into your empowerment. Recovering from life’s woes is not an easy journey, but it is a journey nonetheless. Let me walk on this journey with you using different techniques and treatment modalities to support your growth. Life does not have to be a path you walk alone, and I am happy to walk with you until you no longer need my support.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My colleagues and I strive to provide a safe and compassionate space. We know that therapy can be uncomfortable, but we want to support you in challenging yourself to see progress. If something does not feel right even in therapy, please verbalize it. Then, we can do something about it. That is way we hope to support you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Although we do not prescribe medication, we hope to be a support, if needed, in determining if medication may be a viable option for you. We would be happy to consult with a provider of your choice to see what may be helpful. In therapy, our goal is to learn more about you and hear the things that are otherwise very difficult for you to say. If you feel that you do not know who you are, that is a good place to start to. We look at your journey and see where you may have lost sight of yourself or even if you ever have had sight of yourself. Then, we explore life issues and what can be done about it. With often start with what is inside and outside of your control.

More information on payments and coverage

We create a portal for you in Simple Practice that houses your invoices, statements, and superbills. You can access that portal at anytime. Simple Practice will notify you when there is a new item waiting for you in the portal. If we are in network with your insurance, we will bill your insurance directly. If we are not in network with your insurance, we will provide you a superbill for reimbursement. We encourage you to check with your insurance first about how out of network reimbursement works and how much you are likely to get. If they need a superbill after the first session for you to see what reimbursement will look like, we would be happy to provide that for you. If you do not have insurance, we can discuss payment plans and our sliding scale.
