“Laura is fantastic! She has tremendous empathy and advocates for me to focus on deserved self-care. Her advice is sound and helpful. If you ask for advice she will give it to you. She‚Äôs NOT the type of therapist who says, ‚ÄúAnd what do YOU think?‚Äù when asked a direct question. Her vibe is relaxing and soothing. I always feel better leaving our sessions.”

“I was struggling with the loss of my mother and knew I needed help. I just took a chance and I'm glad I did! Laura is amazing! She is calm, patient, and understanding. She has guided me to a better place in my life and given me insight that has helped tremendously ! There is no judgement so I feel comfortable discussing things with her that I would otherwise keep to myself. I'm very thankful for each session I have with her!”

Getting to know Laura Birnbaum

Hi there, I'm Laura! My name is Laura Birnbaum, and I hold a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. I am a licensed Independent/Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with special interests in supporting people through grief and loss, domestic violence, and emotional/psychological abuse. My approach I utilize a person-centered and strengths-based perspective, drawing on modalities from Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and positive psychology, as well as mindfulness, trauma-informed care, and holistic wellness. My focus I enjoy connecting with all humans and deeply appreciate working with adults and elders, people who identify as LGBTQIA2S+, and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I am most comfortable working with those experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, and loss. My communication style I strive to create a calm and relaxed environment to meet people where they are in the moment. I understand that starting therapy can bring a range of emotions, whether it’s a first experience or one of many, and I honor the time it may take to unpack those feelings and move forward together. My journey to mental healthcare I have experienced the many outcomes therapy can provide, including guidance, support, validation, resolution, and ultimately, healing. I find great meaning in connecting with people on a deeper level to support them through challenges and difficult times, and great joy in witnessing the positive transformations they make in their lives and well-being. My goals for you My approach is collaborative, prioritizing and uplifting the goals that a client identifies as important, meaningful, and measurable. My first session with you Our first session will involve getting to know you, understanding why you have chosen therapy, and exploring your hopes and expectations. I also welcome any questions you may have.
