Getting to know Laura Elgin

I am dedicated, compassionate, and committed to helping individuals navigate life's challenges and achieve emotional well-being. I have experience working with diverse populations, addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and trauma. What should a new client know about working with you?

I tailor treatment plans to meet the unique goals of each client. My approach incorporates various therapeutic models. First, I use Person-Centered Therapy, which creates a non-judgmental and empathetic environment where clients feel safe to explore their thoughts and feelings. This encourages self-discovery and is rooted in Trauma-Informed Care, prioritizing safety, trustworthiness, and collaboration. This approach helps clients regain a sense of control and empowerment while addressing the impact of trauma on their mental health. I also utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to assist clients in recognizing the connections between their thoughts, feelings, and actions. This helps them develop healthier coping strategies and improve their overall mental well-being. Additionally, I incorporate Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to help clients build skills in four key areas: emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness. This enables them to manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and promote both acceptance and change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In the initial session, we will engage in a discussion regarding your objectives for attending therapy. This will entail an exploration of the challenges you are currently experiencing and a consideration of what it would entail for you to no longer be hindered by these issues. We will also address the expectations surrounding our professional relationship, including the principle of confidentiality. I strive to establish trust with my clients by being dependable, inviting constructive feedback, and maintaining transparency regarding my capabilities and limitations. Together, we will identify your specific objectives and goals for therapy, ultimately creating a customized treatment plan that aligns with these aspirations.
