Laura Kohn is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Board Certified Hypnotherapist with over 17 years of experience practicing in Fort Lauderdale and now Punta Gorda. She earned her Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University and holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin. Laura specializes in the emotionally painless treatment of trauma and abuse and has been a pioneer in integrating hypnotherapy, quantum physics, psychology, and ancient wisdom traditions into accessible yet profound methods for rapid and lasting transformation.
She has worked extensively with veterans groups, Victim Services of Broward County, and the Florida Innocence Project, which helps clear trauma from individuals falsely imprisoned and released on DNA evidence. Laura also has significant experience supporting victims of clergy sexual abuse and adult survivors of childhood abuse. She creates synergistic treatment systems that clear blocks at the conscious, subconscious, and even cellular levels, enabling clients to live fully in the present and break free from the past.
Laura began her counseling career as the Lead Therapist for The Women’s Institute of Incorporation Therapy in Hollywood, Florida, a nationally ranked trauma treatment program. She has specialized expertise in treating Dissociative Disorders, including Dissociative Identity Disorder, and now serves clients worldwide.
Before counseling, Laura worked in the travel industry, managing multinational programs as a General Manager for an $80 million business unit. She excels at creating humanistic systems that foster collaboration and allow each team member to shine. In her last corporate role as Vice President of Investor Relations, she helped guide her company through the IPO (Initial Public Offering) process.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I tend to help my clients by giving them tools and techniques they can use to immediately start changing their situations or moods in the present. I work like a consultant to help you find the most effective path to achieve your goals given your learning style, and time constraints. I believe that therapy is about finding and utilizing your existing talents and strengths in new and possibly even novel ways. I'm the therapist for people who hate the idea of therapy.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
In the initial session we'll delve into what has brought you to therapy and what your personal goals for treatment are. From our first session we will collaborate to create a treatment plan to get you where you want to go in the fastest most effective route. I focus on hands on skills you can implement immediately to shift your situation or attain your goals.
