Getting to know Laura Meyer

Hello, I'm Laura. "You must really like people." That's what a colleague said to me back in 2011 when I decided to leave my 17-year career as a corporate risk analyst with Royal Dutch Shell. It was a big leap, but I felt a calling to help others in a more direct and personal way. I became a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and psychotherapist in Texas, earning my Master’s in Biblical Counseling with honors from Dallas Theological Seminary. Today, I'm the Director of my own private practice, Virtue Matters Counseling. I believe that over 50% of healing comes from a warm, safe, and supportive therapeutic relationship, and that's the foundation of my approach to care. I've completed extensive training as a trauma-informed therapist and am proud to be part of the International Institute of Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP) community as a Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist (CSAT). I'm also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) under EMDRIA, which is an evidence-based intervention for complex trauma. My trauma work focuses on healing from Relationship Betrayal, Marital Infidelity and Recovery, Female Intimacy Disorders such as Love and Sex Addiction, and Codependency. In addition to my trauma work, I spent over seven years at a 300-bed residential homeless shelter in Dallas, conducting group work in Anger Management and Women's Issues. I've also provided group and individual therapy for Mood and Anxiety disorders, Grief Care, and consulted on community mental health solutions. I enjoy integrating my wide scope of professional experiences to address the variety of challenges my clients face.
