Laura Mohlman, LCSW

Laura Mohlman, LCSW

Psychotherapist
VA
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing telehealth therapy to adults navigating anxiety, trauma, life transitions, relationship stress, and high-pressure professional environments. I bring over a decade of clinical experience across private practice, healthcare, corrections, and integrated mental health settings. My approach blends evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and trauma-informed care with nervous system regulation strategies to help clients experience relief while building long-term resilience. I believe therapy should feel both grounding and forward-moving — a space where you feel understood, but also challenged to grow. I work especially well with high-functioning professionals, caregivers, and individuals who appear “strong on the outside” but feel overwhelmed internally. Many of my clients are managing chronic stress, burnout, complex trauma, or significant life transitions such as divorce, career shifts, or faith changes. Sessions are collaborative and practical. Together we identify patterns, strengthen emotional regulation skills, and build clarity around next steps. My goal is to help you leave each session with insight and tools you can apply immediately. I currently hold active LCSW licenses in multiple states and provide secure telehealth services designed to fit into busy schedules. Seeking therapy is a sign of strength. If you’re ready to create stability and forward momentum, I’d be honored to work with you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy with me is collaborative, practical, and grounded. I create a calm, steady space where you can speak honestly about what’s weighing on you — without judgment. At the same time, I believe therapy should lead somewhere. We will work toward clarity, skill-building, and measurable change. I integrate evidence-based approaches such as CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and trauma-informed care with nervous system regulation strategies. That means we address both thought patterns and body-based stress responses. Many clients experience immediate tools for relief while also working on deeper patterns over time. I tend to work well with people who are high-functioning but internally overwhelmed — professionals, caregivers, first responders, healthcare workers, and individuals navigating major life transitions. If you are used to being “the strong one,” we will make space for you to not have to carry that alone. You can expect warmth, directness, and accountability. I will validate your experience — and I will also gently challenge beliefs or behaviors that are keeping you stuck. Growth requires both support and honesty. Most importantly, I believe therapy is about building internal stability. My goal is not for you to need therapy forever, but to leave feeling more regulated, confident, and capable of handling life’s complexity.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My Typical Process for Working with Clients 1. Foundation & Clarity (Sessions 1–2) We begin by identifying what’s bringing you in and what “better” would look like. I ask thoughtful, targeted questions to understand your history, stress patterns, coping strategies, and strengths. We establish clear goals so therapy has direction. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, we also focus immediately on nervous system stabilization — sleep, stress response, grounding tools — so you experience relief early in the process. 2. Skill Building & Pattern Awareness (Sessions 3–6) Once we understand your patterns, we begin strengthening tools. This often includes: • Cognitive restructuring (CBT) • Emotional regulation strategies • Boundary development • Communication skills • Trauma-informed processing when appropriate I integrate both insight and practical application. You won’t just talk — you’ll leave sessions with tools to practice between appointments. 3. Deeper Work & Integration (Ongoing) As stability increases, we explore deeper themes: core beliefs, attachment patterns, identity shifts, unresolved trauma, or major life transitions. This phase is collaborative and paced carefully. Growth happens at a rate your nervous system can tolerate. 4. Consolidation & Independence My goal is not long-term dependency. As you build internal regulation and clarity, sessions shift toward strengthening independence. We evaluate progress and determine when spacing out or concluding therapy makes sense.
