Getting to know Laura Rathsmill

Have you felt judged by a therapist for your gender, sexuality, relationship orientation, lifestyle, subculture—or even for just being a bit of a weirdo? I embrace difference of all kinds in my practice and aim to create a space where we will collaborate toward your goals without compromising what makes you who you are. I welcome queer, BIPOC, ethically non-monogamous, kinky, artistic, and neurodivergent folks. I hold a Master’s in Social Work and a Master’s in Human Sexuality from Widener University, which inform my inclusive and affirming approach.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have a dual Master’s degree in Human Sexuality and Social Work from Widener University, and I’m happy to assist you in exploring matters both sexual and nonsexual. I help individuals and couples heal from attachment insecurities, infidelity, sexual challenges, communication issues, fostering a more secure connection. I also enjoy working with folks who are ENM, polyamorous, or who are curious about this lifestyle. I am pursuing certification in EMDR and would be thrilled to harness this powerful modality to help you heal from PTSD or negative beliefs that might be holding you back.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We tailor our sessions to fit each individual's needs. In our first session, we go over our policies, the process of therapy, and we focus on learning more about you and who you are as a person. We work collaboratively with you to find goals that align with what you're looking for to get out of therapy, and always make sure to meet you where you're at.

We are an out-of-network provider, though in some cases you may be eligible to use your out-of-network insurance benefits for our sessions. If needed, we are able to provide you with a superbill, which you will be able to submit to your insurance provider. You are responsible to pay the full fee at the time of session.
