Dr. Laura Russin, PhD, LMHC

Psychotherapist
351 Manville Rd, Pleasantville, NY
I specialize in treating people who have a challenging relationship with alcohol and other illicit substances. I provide comprehensive care for those with co-occurring mental health challenges, including substance misuse coupled with ADHD, depression, anxiety, or trauma. I am passionate about treating couples and families where alcohol or substances have affected family functioning. I support adolescents and adults who have a history of addiction, currently struggle with addiction and are looking to cease use, or those who are simply curious about exploring their relationship with alcohol, substances, or unhealthy coping strategies. I provide a safe, shame-free space to guide my clients through the process of better understanding their substance use and unhealthy coping tools and meet their personal goals. Through years of experience, my approach blends CBT, harm reduction psychotherapy, and most importantly, the development of a strong therapeutic alliance to create meaningful change. Addiction is complex, and its impact on both those who are struggling and their loved ones cannot be understated. I support my clients and their families in gaining a deeper understanding of themselves and their environment and help them discover the tools they have within so they can reach their maximum potential. I am proud to walk alongside my clients.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Discussing addiction, and other maladaptive coping behaviors can be very challenging. I provide a safe, non-judgmental space to explore your relationship with alcohol, substances, and other behavioral addictions. I do not require abstinence and practice harm reduction psychotherapy, allowing you to create your own reduction or abstinence-based goals.
