Getting to know Laura Tejada

It's easy to be your best self when things are calm. My work begins when things are not calm and no one feels at their best. I believe in relational commitment, relational ethics, and working to repair relationships that all parties want to heal. I hold a PhD in Counselor Education & Supervision and a Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Akron, a Master's in Counselor Education from Emporia State University, and a Bachelor's degree from Northern Arizona University.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My goal is to empower you in your individual and relational decisions. Diverse and non-traditional individuals, couples and families are welcome. Our work will be trauma-informed and attachment-oriented. Trauma strains relationships and attachment bonds help sort out the conflicts. I am able to see clients who reside in Illinois and Arizona.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I see individuals, couples, and families in a flexible structure which focuses on here-and-now discussions and processes. I am a Registered Play Therapist and when I see families with young children I use play-based interventions which involve parents and siblings.
